In the Swiss Mountains – My Bend Hiking Must-Haves

Every year, we’re lucky enough to spend time high up in the Swiss Alps — in a tiny town called Crans Montana, full of charm and character.

Once you land in Geneva, it’s a two-and-a-half-hour train ride to Sierre, followed by a bus or shuttle that winds all the way up the mountain. It feels like driving straight into heaven.

Arriving in Crans is like stepping into a postcard. We’ve seen it covered in snow and blooming under summer skies — and each version is just as magical

Beyond the cobblestone streets, cafés, and boutique shops, Crans is known for its incredible hiking trails. They weave through forests and mountainsides, with panoramic views of valleys, golf courses, and snow-capped peaks. And yes — the cows with the big bells are real (and very cute).

With so much to do and see, a week almost doesn't feel long enough - it will never be enough, but 'don't count the days, make the days count'

This year looked a bit different, having hurt my back last December and still struggling to recover from it - but last year the week started off with the most beautiful weather, and a few walks through the town, runs up the mountain, and hikes.

I started wandering through the streets towards the mountain, and soon enough discovered the yellow signs guiding me towards one of the best days of my life. Honestly, the open air, green fields that will soon be covered in snow as ski-slopes. How insane is that? Nothing beats this. Endorphins are surely addictive.

I was almost caught by bad weather and soon realised that I did not have enough snacks. At all. I ate everything an hour into the hike. I survived though, and I live to tell the story!

This will forever be one of my favourite places on Earth!

Over time, I’ve learned one golden rule: never underestimate a “quick” hike. Always go prepared. Take water, snacks, and good sun protection.
