The Beginning of Bend – When a Dream Meets a Gap

I’ve always believed that entrepreneurship starts with spotting a gap. If there’s a gap in the market for me, there’s a good chance it exists for others too — and that’s where opportunity lives.
After a few quarter-life crises (and a politics and law degree later), I decided to leave it all behind to travel the world, supporting the love of my life in what he does best.
It wasn’t easy or glamorous to leave the familiar behind. I missed routine the most, but the disruption pushed me toward something new — something better.

Travel opened my eyes to a retail world that felt completely out of reach back home in South Africa. The day I walked into a Lululemon store for the first time, I was blown away by the quality, the fit, the materials. Then came Athleta, Alo, and Patagonia — and I couldn’t stop thinking: Why don’t we have this at home?

A year ago, I stopped dreaming and started doing. I began reaching out to suppliers, reviewing samples, testing fabrics, and shaping a vision that would soon become Bend. Because when I couldn't find it - I created it!
